Stay the Same
There was a girl with bright pink cheeks
and loved to go to school.
She did not know one thing though,
it was that she was not so “cool.”
Not too many noticed her
but she was always there.
Not too many talked to her
but she just didn’t care.
Until one day she had enough
she changed her look and mind,
Her mother looked so worried
and thought to open the blind.
So the mother talked to her
and told her to stay the same.
But that little girl just had enough,
she thought she had to change.
People sort of noticed her
but just a little bit.
She decided to change some more,
so she would be noticed and just fit.
She changed her attitude, look, and behavior
she thought she was certainly fine.
Until one day her mother said,
I miss the way you were divine.
The girl refused to change again
because she was “in”
She wanted the better stuff
and have a cool boyfriend.
She got her wish; she got her dream
but she still wasn’t happy.
Her grades had dropped and her mind had popped,
she thought she would always be crappie.
The girl was gone, no one really noticed.
Except her dear old mother
who had tried to tell her to stay the same
and told her she was like no other.
The moral is to stay the same
and just know who you are
And never let anything change your way
especially when you are your own star.
Toriann wrote this and entered it into a contest. She got a letter a couple days ago saying her poem is going to be published into a book! Can you believe that? We are so proud of her. She will write more later.
